Natalia and I have been living together in a small village in Valchiavenna for a few years now. We’ve been developing a body of work that’s often showcased in churches, which are very common in the valley and in nearby Switzerland. For us, these places have become custodians of sound as well as contemplation.
Natalia, both as a solo artist and in other projects like our duo, is conducting extensive research on the instruments found in these spaces. Many churches have old organs that deserve to be rediscovered.
The church where we recorded is located in Bondo, a village just across the border in Switzerland and very close to where we live. The church has a small positive organ which, from a timbral point of view, immediately revealed special and valuable possibilities for our research. The record is the result of a deep collaboration developed through both improvisation and composition.
The sound of that specific church immediately captivated us with its golden characteristics and a very clear, resonant energy. We felt completely welcomed by its sound.
